WeeHands with Erin

My name is Sara Bingham. I am the founder of WeeHands and I’m also the author of The Baby Signing Book. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics and a graduate certificate as a Communicative Disorders Assistant. I took my first American Sign Language class while studying Linguistics years ago in Ottawa, Ontario.

When I was working in clinics as a therapist, I primarily worked with adults and preschool children with developmental disabilities, the majority of whom were non-verbal or very low verbal individuals: individuals who were beginning communicators. Their caregivers and parents were the first that I taught sign language to.

While I was pregnant with my first-born I knew that I wanted to use sign language with my children. I couldn’t imagine them being frightened, hungry or cold without having a way to communicate that with me. I knew the benefits of using augmentative communication before someone was able to speak. I sign with my first born, and my second, then WeeHands was born in 2002. Since then we’ve been able to teach thousands of parents and educators just like you!
