This was the best thing I did with my children. As young adults now they still use their sign language skills! It was very useful at 'awkward ages' as well in social settings if they needed to go to the bathroom but didn't want to ask verbally, or for when mom wanted to hug and kiss them but it was embarrassing to the kids. So the sign for "I love you" became our comfortable goodbye.
